Howard Street Project Completed

The Howard Street Extension Project consisted of the construction of municipal (water, sewer, storm, power and lighting) and private (cable and telephone) utilities; low impact development (LID) treatment of stormwater; pedestrian and bicycle improvements along a re-aligned paved roadway. A roundabout was constructed on the realigned roadway at Rainier Street and Discovery Road. The project goals were to provide commercial property frontage along the City’s last vacant commercial properties and to divert traffic from Sims Way. The re-aligned roadway was named Rainier Street.

This project began in August 2016 and the ribbon cutting ceremony signaling completion of the project was on November 1, 2017. Seton Construction, from Port Townsend, WA, was awarded the construction contract for this project.

The total project cost was funded through Transportation Improvement Board (TIB), Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB), and City funds. The approximate breakdown of funding is as follows:
