City 2SLGBTQIA+ Liaisons:
The Port Townsend Police Department’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Liaison Officer’s purpose is to strengthen the relationship between the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and the Police Department. By establishing an ongoing dialogue, the Liaison hears directly from community members about concerns, works collaboratively with the community to identify solutions, and educates about recommended safety measures and available resources.
We hope to achieve a strong relationship by:
- Providing training, or organizing training with an expert, for members of the department on 2SLGBTQIA+ topics, including proper pronoun use, how to correctly identify a hate crime based on sexual orientation or gender identity, etc.
- Developing and implementing strategies to prevent hate crimes and violent crimes within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
- Getting to know and meeting with business owners, community groups, and individuals of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to inform them about relevant law enforcement issues
- Serving as a representative of the police department at community 2SLGBTQIA+ events
- Identifying and attending training and/or conferences related to 2SLGBTQIA+ issues
- Developing and maintaining an open, trusting relationship between the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and the police department.
