The Planning and Community Development Department (PCD) consists of three divisions: Planning, Building, and Code Compliance. Working closely with our colleagues in the Public Works Department, the PCD team reviews permits for current projects and develops long-range plans to ensure that Port Townsend continues to be a great place to live, work, and visit.

Apply online for building permits, land use permits, and right-of-way permits.  Permit applications are now 100% digital. For permit application assistance:

Permitting Services

You probably need a permit!  Start your project off right by determining what permits are required, how to apply online, and where to find code requirements.

Building

The Building Team performs commercial and residential plan review and inspections to ensure projects comply with building codes.

Planning

The Planning Team is responsible for both long-range and current planning projects, and reviewing permit applications to ensure compliance with the City’s zoning code, historic preservation requirements, and critical areas ordinance.

Code Compliance

The Code Compliance Officer works to ensure compliance with building, land use, nuisance, and zoning codes.
