Water Street Enhancement Project
Water Street serves as the public entrance and first impression to historic Port Townsend, yet the street and sidewalks in many places were inadequate, unsafe, and not very inviting for pedestrians, bicyclists, and cars alike. The City began construction on the Water Street Enhancement Project in January 2018 and completed the project in July 2018. The Project covered Water Street from Taylor Street to the Ferry Terminal. Interwest Construction of Burlington, WA was awarded the contract for this Project. The improvements included:
- Replacing an 80 year old water main
- Upgrading sewer, storm, and water service lines
- Removing a concrete road under street surface
- Adding new transit, pedestrian, and bicycle facilities that also enhanced the streetscape.
The timeline for this project was 2 and a half years, with a construction budget of $2.7 million. A breakdown of the funding is shown here:
