Downtown Projects Update

Update from March 17, 2020: Due to preventative efforts being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the PUD has suspended all work downtown for the next few weeks. We will update when the work is set to resume.

Street light Installation:

Installation of street lights from Taylor Street to the Ferry Terminal will start on Monday, January 13, 2020. PUD will begin at Subway and move down the north side of Water Street. PUD's contractor, Titan, will work block by block to remove the old overhead wires, cut the tops of existing utility poles, install fiber, install new street lights and wire them to the PUD side of the meter.

The sidewalks on each block will be closed while Titan removes the length of old overhead electrical wire. The wire removal will be done in the morning to try to avoid issues with local businesses. Once the wire is removed, restricted sidewalk access may resume. PUD will need to close down parking spots adjacent to the area that Titan is working in.

It will take approximately 2 days for each block to be finished.

December 8, 2020 update: All PUD overhead wire removal is complete. All street light installations are complete.

January 16, 2020 update from Will: The PUD has removed all overhead electrical conductor and hardware from the utility poles from the Washington State Ferry terminal to the intersection of Water Street and Adams Street. Due to inclement weather, there will be no work on the 17th; this project will resume on January 21, 2020.

January 23, 2020 update: The PUD has installed 5 lights so far, starting at the Ferry Terminal and working east toward downtown. They are installing about 3 lights per day, and will be done by Thursday, January 30. After all the lights have been put in, they will come back and remove the old ones which are currently attached to the poles. This will happen in February.

February 13, 2020 update: All the new street lights in the Water Street work zone have been installed and are operational. There are still some pole mounted lights that need to be removed, and the bases of the new streetlights need to be grouted in, but this will not happen for a couple of weeks.

Questions or concerns about this project can be directed to PUD Communications Manager Will O'Donnell. He can be reached via phone at (360) 385-8369 or via email at wodonnell@jeffpud.org.

Haller Fountain Steps:

The City has signed a contract with SCC to repair the top of Haller Fountain Steps. Work began on March 12.

The concrete work for this project is done. All that remains is a railing, which will be fabricated by City staff. City staff will take charge of landscaping once the City has re-opened to the public.

December 8, 2020 update: The Haller Fountain steps project still needs a handrail at the top of the steps.  The current plan is that the public works staff will fabricate one.  There is also still a need for landscaping, but nothing has been scheduled.
