Code Compliance

Code enforcement is a critical component to maintaining the health, safety, and vitality of the City of Port Townsend.

The Code Compliance Officer is responsible for responding to concerns and performing pro-active enforcement working with business and property owners to resolve building, land use, nuisance and zoning regulations, to improve the quality of our community for its residents and visitors.

 

Report a Possible Violation

  • A valid complaint must include the reporter's full name and contact information.
  • This form is only monitored Monday - Friday during regular business hours.
  • The City uses a third party vendor application to track Code Violation reports. You will be able to optionally choose to create an account and/or create a 6-digit PIN if you plan to check back on the progress of your concern. 

 

Typical areas enforced by Code Compliance:

  • Construction: (including re-roof), commercial tenant improvements, clearing/grading(without approved and issued permits)
  • Junk accumulation
  • Vacation rentals
  • Illegal, unpermitted housing
  • Home occupations
  • Signs
  • Critical Area violations - geohazard, shoreline, wetlands, etc.
  • Grass, overgrown vegetation
  • Historic Preservation
  • Zoning - allowable uses, fences, setbacks
