Wastewater Treatment
The Wastewater Treatment Plant provides for the collection and treatment of wastewater received from residential, commercial and industrial uses.
The wastewater system has 73 miles of sanitary sewers ranging from 4 to 30 inches in diameter, 8 pump stations, a secondary wastewater treatment plant and about 3,854 service connections.
The treatment plant has capacity projected to be adequate until approximately 2015 and a design population of 12,000 (2006 population is about 8,820)

Compost Facility
The composting facility processes the biosolids from the wastewater treatment facility, septage from the pumping of septic tanks and yard waste materials using an aerated static pile composting process to produce a Class A, Exceptional Quality, Compost is approved to be used with no restrictions for yards, gardens, etc.  The compost is sold to the public about three times per year.  The price for the compost is $12.00 per cubic yard for nine or fewer cubic yards and $9.00 per cubic yard if 10 or more cubic yards is purchased at each loading.  The City puts notices in the Port Townsend Leader of upcoming sale events at least two weeks in advance of the sale and on the City’s website.
